Brentford Fans Forum. A photographic record

Enough has been said about the excellent forum and the transparency with which questions were answered. There was also restraint shown by the fans in not asking any negative or difficult questions that also may have been on their mind. Please enjoy a few basic photos all sadly I Phone standard but nonetheless may give a view to those who were not there of what it was like.

The atmosphere was great, supportive and at times amusing, with the witty Peter Gilham in charge as always. Cliff Crown looking every inch a Premiership chairman. Honest and meaningful answers. David Weir looking like and sounding like a football coach. Great evening.

Tsunami Photo Museum Telewatta Sri Lanka

On Dec 26th in 2004 the Tsunami hit different Asian countries including Sri Lanka. Very many lives were lost, at least 40,000 and because records are not so excellent there numbers may well be higher. Sri Lanka in fact was the second worst country that was hit. Since then the country had had a resurgence with a second international airport recently completed in the south and the start of a motorway system embedded in the country, meaning what was previously a 5 hour trip from Colombo Airport to the south is far nearer two hours now.

What however many people remain unaware of is that there is a museum devoted to the Tsunami. From the outside it does not look like a museum, in fact it looks remarkably like a ramshackle house that was hit by the Tsunami in the Pareliya area just back from the coast. This is exactly what it is, a house ruined that has been left essentially damaged but turned into a small museum that houses photographs, paintings and stories of how local people built up their lives from scratch. There is free entry and one can leave donations in a small box.

The aim of the museum is to keep the stories alive for future generations and show people what actually happened.

When I visited in August 2014 it has to be one of the most emotional places I can recall visiting.

The museum is almost opposite the National Tsunami Monument near Pareliya junction ( where around 2000 people on a train lost their lives that morning), and is on the main road traveling north out of Hikkaduwa around 4 km or 9 km south of ambalangoda.

The Best Photos of 2014. Maybe.

This is the time of year that I frantically try and complete a calendar for 2015. Here is the short list of my photos. It has been a strange photographic year really. Some memorable shots but maybe not as many as in past years so it has been relatively easy to get down to a final set of 22. all help appreciated in helping me choose the final 12.

Hong Kong Food , PuPu Platter and Deep Fried milk. What did the Hairy Angry Crab make of it?

I am sure that Chinese food is wonderful, it is just that to me it is not. I do not like the look of it, the smell of it, the taste of it nor the ingredients . Seemingly everything that I dislike gets included, mushrooms, prawns, shrimps, oysters, unspecified meats, raw meats, raw fish and so on……so although i seemed to survive 3 days there, i have lost weight, feel hungry and never really want to eat at/near/in a chinese restaurant again please. Things that I will avoid, Hairy Crabs, Angry Crabs, Pu Pu Platter, deep fried milk and in fact everything. And in fact my sympathy is with the crab, if I were a Dungeness crab, I too would be angry being plucked from my tank alive and eaten.

The saving grace were the chinese tarts, there were a lot of chinese tarts in the hotel, blueberry ones, and at 5 pm they were released from their captivity and plunged into the lounge, where I devoured them.

The Incredible Pride of a Brentford FC Supporter. Notts forest 1 Brentford 3

There is no exagerration to say that Brentford coulld have won this game far more easily than the score suggests, maybe 5-0 would have been a fair reflection. not so many years ago Brentford were in the basement division and collecting coins in buckets to pay players wages. Now we sit a few points outside the play off zone in the Championship.

Rather than words, a few photographs to demonstrate the size of club that Brentford last night beat. long may this continue

Unusual Football Mascots

I never quite get football mascots really. Most adults are not interested nor excited by viewing a grown adult in the body of a bee, clown,shark, dragon and so on. But maybe I am at fault as the trend continues and if anything strengthens. Here we present Buzetter, a female Bee of the Brentford variety who cheerfully goes on her way each game shaking hands with the junior members of the crowd and making them smile. I am sure I have even seen her do a dance, but somewhat short of twerking. The question I am left with amongst others is what exactly would Jota, the new Brentford signing from Celta Vigo (pronounced Hotter) have made of this? I have my suspicions.

Brentford get promotion on an exceedingly Good Friday

Having followed Brentford for 50 years days like this are rare and rarely are they better. Looking at the maths just before lunchtime it became apparent that Bees had a chance of being promoted yesterday if they won and results went their way. Both happened. A tense game but perhaps more easily won than score suggests 1-0, a penalty at that, and Bees also missed another at the Ealing Road end…..

But the outpouring of happiness could only be seen in a small club over achieving and now wondering how much further we might go? We are no smaller a club than Fulham. Indeed in those days when Fulham flirted with relegation from Division 4, their crowds were in the 3-4000 mark and Bees rarely got anywhere as low as that in comparable times.

What has happened? Well Mark Warburton has happened. A manager in his first job taking over a third of the way through the season. Without doubt he improved the play and the players. He signed only a small number of good players instead of dozens of me-too’s. My own view that may not be shared by all is that he is a far superior manager to Uwe. That is a compliment and not a put down to Uwe.

These photos below show the exact moment we thought we had won promotion ( in fact because of that crazy Wolves v Rotherhams game, ending 6-4 eventually, we were a little premature).
