York Marriott. Could Their 3-course menu for £21 be the best bargain in UK?

Many hotels hardly seem to bother with their restaurants. They charge inflated prices to guests for often very average breakfasts and evening meals are often lazy affairs. Charging upwards of £20 for an average steak in a soulless environment. York Marriott is bucking the trend . During a recent stay a decision was made to eat and drink in the hotel as the bar and restaurant areas looked welcoming . The bar had a good selection of beers and the restaurant a decent menu. I took a decision to eat off the three course for £21 menu where there were 4-5 choices for each course . The food was delicious and the ambience great .

Bread cost an extra £3.50 but there was plenty for three and came with oils and butters. My starter was an excellent fish salad and not small either

Others chose Leek and Potato soup

Fish pie and Chocolate tart completed my feast .

Lastly the service was good and people serving happy and smiling, not always a given in hotel restaurants. If you happen to stay here it is well worth eating and drinking here too.

Paintings of Bergen in Norway

More paintings by the British artist Vincent Van B. Bergen sits on the Norwegian coast and I struggled to be captivated by it, in contrast to cities like Stavanger that have something special. Here are a few paintings designed to try and bring Bergen to life and light.

Few interesting turrets floating around. 000000450000005000000065

Bakewell Tarts of different types

Bakewell tarts are a curiosuly Brittish thing and emanate from a town in Derbyshire called Bakewell. There are increasingly different variations on the theme and flavour of bakewell tarts. In the last couple of days I have been lucky enough to have eaten both Raspberry backless and banana bakewells.

For those unfamiliar, this link will tell you all that need, but to simplify things. The Bakewell Tart is an English confection consisting of a shortcrust pastry with a layer of jam and a sponge using ground almonds.

Hong Kong Food , PuPu Platter and Deep Fried milk. What did the Hairy Angry Crab make of it?

I am sure that Chinese food is wonderful, it is just that to me it is not. I do not like the look of it, the smell of it, the taste of it nor the ingredients . Seemingly everything that I dislike gets included, mushrooms, prawns, shrimps, oysters, unspecified meats, raw meats, raw fish and so on……so although i seemed to survive 3 days there, i have lost weight, feel hungry and never really want to eat at/near/in a chinese restaurant again please. Things that I will avoid, Hairy Crabs, Angry Crabs, Pu Pu Platter,  deep fried milk and in fact everything. And in fact my sympathy is with the crab, if I were a Dungeness crab, I too would be angry being plucked from my tank alive and eaten.

The saving grace were the chinese tarts, there were a lot of chinese tarts in the hotel, blueberry ones, and at 5 pm they were released from their captivity and plunged into the lounge, where I devoured them.
