Ryman League Club Advertising Groundsharing . Interesting

To my knowledge I have never seen a club formally advertise groundsharing. Clearly it must go on at some level of course to alert neighbouring clubs who might clearly need a groundshare. Walton Casuals are an example having no ground of their own currently . But an interesting concept and why not.

Whyteleafe are a club in the environs of Croydon , sort of, who play in Ryman South and have a decent ground .  This is their advert they put out today. Thoughts?

The Beauty of Non-league football. A few photographs from a cold January afternoon

Live football is a great game and can be easily distinguished from the reality TV nonsense that so often represents the fare delivered from the Premiership. Skill levels may be greater in the Premiership but nothing beats seeing and smelling the action from close up.  Things that would seem an anathema to stewards in league football happen weekly in the non-league arena. To put it simply, the rules are sensible. Fans can stand and drink beer on the terraces, fans can often bring well behaved dogs on a lead, fans can purchase good quality food at reasonable prices .

This is football played ny normal people and watched by those who genuinely love the game. To anyone with a camera there are many photo opportunities to observe all manner of real life at football.

Although I often go to non-league football games to watch and photograph the actions and the players, there are also some great images to be had from the fans and officials alike. Here are a few shots taken from the Ryman South game 2nd January 2017 Chipstead v Carshalton Athletic.

Chipstead 3 Carshalton Athletic 1. Photographs from a cold afternoon

A cold afternoon that ended up little over freezing at the end saw an interesting and entertaining game which either side could have won. Carshalton missed a few good chances and also contrived to miss two penalties rather badly. Good value as always for £9.It is always easy being a football critic of course but the difference between the two sides and maybe the chance of Carshalton reaching the play offs, is taking your chances and taking them at the right time. Carshalton played the better football but the scoreline mandates that Chipstead played the more effective football and certainly looked better than a team that was 20 points below Carshalton.

Carshalton Athletic FC Move To Second in Ryman South .An incredible victory 10-0 versus Godalming Town. A little more about the story of the game.

Godalming were doomed from the first 5 minutes when they were 3-0 down and it was always how many goals were Carshalton going to score. In truth the teams were classes apart. Not many teams could have lived with the free flowing football and the movement displayed last night. The finishing was sublime. There will be far better match reports than this but this was a game to really enjoy and wonder how far this team can go.

Clearly 10-0 victory says it all really. No sendings off, no goalkeeper injuries, just ten good goals. to their credit Godalming kept going till the end and a few minutes before the end looked certain to score but even then the Carshalton defence were battling away to keep a clean sheet and cleared the ball off the line.

00006041The fans enjoyed this game however the Godalming manager looked downcast all game and resigned this morning.

This maybe sums up Godalming’s night. Two of their own players crash into each other and neither get anywhere near the ball.

Carshalton 2 Guernsey 1. Photographs

A combative and interesting game where Carshalton might have won by a greater margin against a spitited but somewhat limited Guernsey side. The reality was that other than an excellent long range goal from Ross Allen, Guernsey hardly threatened at all and their cause was not helped by the sending off of Tom Martin for a reckless challenge.

Carshalton are an interesting team to watch at the moment playing football in a real way with skill and passing and kept calm mostly by the experienced player/manager Peter Adeniyi playing the ball calmly out and around in defence. They are definitiely in the mix for promotion and maybe need 1-2 more players in select areas to make that happen.

The End of a FA Cup Dream – Carshalton 2 Worthing 6.Some photographs from an entertaining game.

The preliminary and qualifying rounds of  the FA cup often produce a few surprises and with financial rewards around £2000 for winning, teams have more than a vested interest.  On a damp and occasionally rainy evening Worthing ran out clear winners over Carshalton, however the scoreline fails to reflect a fascinating game that surely Carshalton will learn from.

0000585900005879Some spectators decided that an umbrella was the best option even sitting in the main stand.

00005872Carshalton took an early 2-0 lead and looked the better footballing side but a scrappy Worthing goal minutes before half time put them back in the game.

The first Carshalton goal

The second half was one way traffic not helped with the sending off of their captain Jahmahl King  for two probably unnecessary  yellow cards. This led to a non-stop attack on the Carshalton goal and Alex Kozakis had this view for most of the second half.

00005905 The crowd of 286 saw a good game with a scoreline not really a fair one. Although Carshalton played good football their heads went down particualrly after the sending off of their captain and towards the end were playing the ball around at the back as a form of damage limitation.

0000588100005867Peter Adeniyi will feel a little unlucky overall however with some defensive strengthening this will become a very good side indeed.

A reasonably entertaining game but one which the hosts won too easily and the result was never in doubt.

A few thoughts on a few hours in Madrid

I have posted a few articles this year on Madrid. A great city but a warm one. Recently I had a few hours to myself to walk around and that goes quickly in Madrid. Who cares where I walked but it was on the edge of Gran Via.

IMG_4299A few things struck me:

  1. This is a seriously hot city. Temperatures that day were a medium 30c at maximum but it felt hotter, what we call dry heat. In the summer I am told 45c is not unusual. Now that is too hot to be walking aroundFullSizeRender-5
  2. Prices for ice creams are a disgrace. In general Spain is not an expensive city at all, in fact relatively cheap, but to be asked for 3.20 euros for an ice cream cone is criminal.
  3. Everyone still seems to smoke here. This is not backed up in the official statistics of course, but just take a walk and take a look. FullSizeRender-6
  4. Spanish food is curious frankly. They never seem to want to heat it up properly and seem to regularly recycle in buffets food that maybe in UK would have been removed. IMG_4322
  5. The people generally are smiling. People are talking to each other. They tried talking to me, as most think I am Spanish, but at a conversation speed that appraoches the speed of re-entry into the Earth atmosphere.
  6. I like the city, the country and mostly the people.
  7. There is no word in the spanish language for Queue. This does not happen. They are not being rude ( well maybe they are) but people do not queue. Not anywhere. Old ladies are the most dangerous species with their bags and coats at strange angles and heading directly towards where they want to get to. If they knock you then so be it ( its your fault of course, not theirs),
  8. Lastly there is a reason why the abbreviation for Madrid Barajas airport is MAD. A really confusing and complex airport. Do allow time there to negotiate your way through.

When can I go back please? But dont mention the football. Euro 2016.
