Brentford 3 Wigan 0. Brentford in the Playoffs for Premiership

Almost unbelievable. A slightly subdued Griffin Park watched as miracles happened with Brentford easily marching past Wigan 3-0 and alos missing the obligatory penalty on the way. But a good Bees performance, although they might have scored many more was enough to get them in the playoffs, with Derby losing surpringly at home to Reading 0-3 and Ipswich losing at Blackburn 3-2. So three sides end up on 78 points and only Wolves with the worst goal difference lose out.

A few photos from a semi-pitch invasion that ceased when the crowd were told that the players would not be coming out that friday the pitch was needed for in good condition and they all dispersed in good mood.

Are the Police the only way to stop Brentford scoring?

Fulham 1 Brentford 4. By the end this looked the only way to stop Brentford scoring more goals.

Ipswich 1 Brentford 1. A day out in Suffolk

The first thing one realises is that Ipswich is nearer than one thinks, that the ground is a neat ground and that there is ample car parking nearby for 4-5£. Walking to the ground one passes a nice Weir, and not David Weir. A few curious signs like ” drive at walking speed”. The last time I was here I got entry with Bobby Robson telling the officials I was an Ipswich Town player. I can say he was genuinely a lovely man who also cooked a great fried breakfast. The fans and the stewards are a friendly bunch. The game itself is end to end and Brentford although having been on top in the first half were totally under the hammer in the second and only the miss of the century from Darryl Murphy stopped Ipswich taking all 3 points. Man of the match was David button, who has become a really accomplished keeper and most likely best in division, except his kicking game. Brentford played well but on the negative side Liam Moore was a liability and eventually taken off, rare to substitute centre backs in a game. His error allowed ipswich the goal and his many other errors almost allowed them more goals. On the positive side, the team worked well and in a strange kind of way deserved a point. As usual, Jake Bidwell and the midfield impressed with both work rate and skill. This is a Brentford team with a real eye on the playoffs.

Murder in Motspur Park in Surrey Feb 9th 2015

Motspur Park is maybe best famous for hosting the Fulham football club training ground and is otherwise part of the london suburbia where denizens leave by train in the morning and return home in crowded rush hour carriages. A murder yesterday Feb 9th has shocked the community.

The basic story seems to go like this. A couple living in a residential road in a terraced house, the husband it is speculated killed the wife. Little more is known other than the man was taken to hospital with alleged head injuries. The road has been filled for two days with police officers,  detectives knocking on doors, numerous journalists. Very little is known about the couple Ray and Linda Mills. They seemed to live a quiet existence and rarely spoke to neighbours but were often seen about. Nothing heralded this event.

Numerous forensic scientists appeared at various times to bring out various bags of stuff that were taken away. Not at all normal for Motspur Park . The body it seems was left in the house overnight for the forensic scientists to complete their examinations, and seems was removed during the afternoon of Feb 10th.

The murder has taken many of the mainstream media such as Evening Standard over 24 hours to reach their attention and other websites too such as

An investigation was launched by Homicide and Major Crime Command, led by Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Reeves.

So at the current time, the 65 year old man has been charged with murder.

The Incredible Pride of a Brentford FC Supporter. Notts forest 1 Brentford 3

There is no exagerration to say that Brentford coulld have won this game far more easily than the score suggests, maybe 5-0 would have been a fair reflection. not so many years ago Brentford were in the basement division and collecting coins in buckets to pay players wages. Now we sit a few points outside the play off zone in the Championship.

Rather than words, a few photographs to demonstrate the size of club that Brentford last night beat.  long may this continue

Birmingham is not such a bad place

The good news is that on my visit there yesterday I found Birmingham City FC easily where Brentford will be paying a visit next season. I also found in the heart of Birmingham, Small Heath, a few unexpected sights. On a warm sunny day Birmingham even with its evil traffic, lack of road signage and far too many cars, looked actually quite cool.
