Unusual Food Items. Chapter 1. Fried Curry Donuts

Without doubt this is the first time I have come across fried curry donuts. Served in a cellophane bag , making me wonder how long these have gone uneaten, in a Japan Airlines lounge at Frankfurt airport.  I am afraid that I have no intention of eating these.

Amsterdam- City of Curious Things and Curious People

Most people are aware of Amsterdam as a great city to have fun and observe life and people. Behind the obvious sights there lies a whole host of strange things and people, and some cute things as well. Amsterdam has the ability to both shock and enlighten. Walking down a city centre street I am not sure what shocked me the most, that a haircut coild cost 45 euros or that someone had written a book titled ” The Philosophy of Beards”. True that maybe a bottle of nice mexican beer came free too.

In Vondelspark a strange gentleman with a horse’s head was playing what I imagine was some sort of tambourine. I use the term playing lightly. He was making a kind of repetitive banging noise which only seemed to stop when we was given money, so I consider this a good cause to donate a euro too. Plus no scowling when I took his photograph.

There are many shops including a number that sell whole cheeses in sizes that must make an interesting hand luggage size. Shops where they close and put up nice signs such as ” we are sorry we are closing and will not be in your palate for a few days” instead of handwritten closed signs. Pizza restaurants where they say ” no cash” rather different from the UK sunday curry buffets where its cash only. I wonder why. Beer that is actually cold with glasses kept in the freezer. Coffee that not only tastes good but looks good and can be drunk by a canal watching boats and people go by. A shop where you can make your own Magnum, at a price though around 4 euros. Maybe the best omelette I have ever tasted. From an Irish Pub actually next to the Paradiso.

Ipswich 1 Brentford 1. A day out in Suffolk

The first thing one realises is that Ipswich is nearer than one thinks, that the ground is a neat ground and that there is ample car parking nearby for 4-5£. Walking to the ground one passes a nice Weir, and not David Weir. A few curious signs like ” drive at walking speed”. The last time I was here I got entry with Bobby Robson telling the officials I was an Ipswich Town player. I can say he was genuinely a lovely man who also cooked a great fried breakfast. The fans and the stewards are a friendly bunch. The game itself is end to end and Brentford although having been on top in the first half were totally under the hammer in the second and only the miss of the century from Darryl Murphy stopped Ipswich taking all 3 points. Man of the match was David button, who has become a really accomplished keeper and most likely best in division, except his kicking game. Brentford played well but on the negative side Liam Moore was a liability and eventually taken off, rare to substitute centre backs in a game. His error allowed ipswich the goal and his many other errors almost allowed them more goals. On the positive side, the team worked well and in a strange kind of way deserved a point. As usual, Jake Bidwell and the midfield impressed with both work rate and skill. This is a Brentford team with a real eye on the playoffs.
