Football Goal Celebrations. This is one of the best

In this era of sometimes silly goal celebrations it was genuinely humbling to witness a far more relevant and genuine one today in a nonleague game. The goal was an incredible free kick from a player who had come on shortly before as a second half substitute . This was enjoyable and humbling .

West Bromwich Albion Fans

Recently there have been some negative things said regarding the actions of the Birmingham city fans. It is worth acknowledging that the WBA fans on a recent visit to Brentford were superb.  Noisy from the start and good humoured throughout on a windy day where football was a difficult spectacle. They packed the away end and showed great banners.

Talking with them while photographing the game they were there to enjoy themselves and fully support their team. A few photos of the fans . The full set of photos from the game can be found at

Brentford 2 Southampton 2. A competitive entertaining pre-season game. What did we learn?

A decent crowd turned up to watch a surprisingly competitive pre-season game that saw Bees use their new signings. A draw was a fair result with each side donating a goal. Brentford looked the sharper side early on and scored with a nicely worked goal from Vibe.  Two Charlie Austin goals put the visitors in front before a howler from the fierce looking Fraser Forster gifted Brentford a late but deserved equaliser. goal

So what were the main learnings? Here are my thoughts:

  1. Fans will turn up in decent numbers for a pre-season game especially if the new players are on show
  2. Despite all the rumours Jota looked fit, interested and made a few Southampton defenders look quite silly at times, being allowed to run around them and then across the penalty area. 1K4A2935
  3. I am no expert in physical fitness but for me these players looked far fitter than in previous seasons. The game was played by both teams sensibly, with a few good challenges but nothing rash nor dangerous.
  4. Daniel Bentley looked a class goalkeeper making a couple of excellent saves, whereas Forster looked distinctly rusty.1K4A2921
  5. The Brentford style this year will be an attacking style using the wing and the concern will be not whether we score goals, which we will, but how to concede less. It is complex to read anything into a single game but to me the body language of Harlee Dean was not positive. Is he on his way out? Will it be Barbet and Egan in central defence? Dalsgaard looked solid at full back and Colin had his usual good game. Difficult to predict the right back starter. Good to see Mokotjo defending also as last line of defence. 1K4A2986
  6. Kamo Mokotjo looked good, scary and solid. He reminded me of  Toumani speeded up. He did make a few mistakes but rapidly corrected them. It is hard to see Yennaris getting many games. 1K4A2979
  7. Lasse Vibe is a class player. His hairstyle this year will be curious. Probably still our first choice striker. Neal Maupay and  Ollie Watkins both looked good and created mischief in the Southampton defence. vibe1K4A29331K4A3036watkinsshot2
  8. Florian J looked good too, maybe fitter, quicker and more stylish than last year. florun

Brentford fans will be looking forward to the season knowing that the size and strength of the squad means there will be healthy competition for places, and allows for injuries and suspensions. Why will we not be a top 6 side?

The Lemurs of The Lemur Loop At Marwell Zoo

On July 7th 2017 the new Lemur Loop opened at Marwell Zoo near Winchester in UK. The zoo is a zoo dedicated to animal conservation and is now expanding rapidly. The Lemur Loop is an opportunity for visitors to not only see lemurs at first hand only a few feet away with no barriers nor fences, but also to learn about them in the excellent new educational area that adjoins the Lemur’s home.

As with all wild animals there can be no guarantee that they will come out when the visitors want them too but in reality they are very likely to do so. This is an excellent initiative and gives people another good reason to visit this small but superb zoo in Hampshire.

These are a few photos taken on the first day the loop was opened. This will give some idea of the potential for close-up viewing of these beautiful animals.

Imber Court . The home of Met Police football club . Excellent example of a good non-league club

One of the nice aspects of non-league football is visiting Small grounds in nice environs. There is also an absence of the ridiculous stewarding that adorns professional clubs.

This is a nice ground and is part of a sports complex that includes a cricket ground and smaller football pitches. One can walk around most of the outside of the ground and this short blog is really just to introduce you to this small club that gets smaller crowds than it deserves.

Burgers are a mere 2.50£. People smile and talk to you. I will post separately a match report of the game against Needham Market but it was a thoroughly enjoyable day out for £10 and £2 for a decent programme.

A few away fans from Needham Market had made the trip and sat on the terraces in the sunshine

Blogging and a New Photo Blog site. Please share

Seems I have now posted over 1000 blogs on this blog which started off as a blog to keep in contact with my wandering daughter. I have been trying to streamline a little what goes on here and have decided that I would like to showcase some of my best photography on a separate photo blog where there are no words just pictures .

Please feel free to take a look, comment and share. The last few months I have been fortunate enough to be able to photograph amongst other things wolves in the wild,  food and some fascinating places.

Here on this blog I will continue to show some photos but the main purpose will be the words not the photos.

Thanks for listening.

The Lobo Wolf Park At Antequera in Southern Spain

This is an area next to El Torcal where Wolves live effectively in the wild though a few of them have been socialised.  The park is in the middle of nowehere and finding it is not always so easy situated around an hour north of Malaga but not well known. Even when one arrives in Antequera it is hard to find with  the Spanish not putting signposting high on their agenda.

The options are to go on a small group tour , maybe 6-10 people each tour, sometimes less, or book a photographers tour which they do 10 am when the light is at its best and still quite warm, and that is done with a private guide who also allows you to throw food to the Wolves. Some of the panels in the fences can be removed and at times the Wolves were within feet of myself and my camera.

The photographs speak for themselves really. From around 300 photos I have tried to select here the top 15 which is not easy. There are a mixture of young and old wolves. Alpha males and bottom of the food chain. Enjoy.

I have also put the photos on my photo website Chrisbushephotography.com where it is easier to view them full size
