Ljubljana – the most beautiful city in Europe

Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia and is a city with the river Ljubljanica running through the city centre giving an intense backdrop to the many restaurants and cafes that line the river banks.IMG_0176

The city has a population of around 300,oo and that excludes the many dragons lining bridges and other areas. The dragon is the symbol of Slovenia.

It is an attractive lattice of cobbled streets, arched alleys and fine cultural monuments, many of which were bequeathed to the city by Jože Plečnik (1872–1957), Slovenia’s most celebrated urban planner including the  brilliantly conceived Triple bridge.

There are plentiful museums as one might expect from a capital city but the real enjoyment comes from simply walking the streets and seeing this city first-hand. Oddly the castle which gives an almost fairy tale backdrop to the city is about the only average feature of the city .

Many of the streets are cobblestone and lined with street art. Small bakers and other artisans sell their wares.

IMG_0188The bars and restaurants are plentiful and provide ample choice, although maybe pizza is the commonest type of cuisine.

IMG_0331Never also forget the amazing street art that is everywhere.

Street Art In Craiova Romania. Very Many Different Types

Who are the artists, and who are the subjects in the photos? An artist called A Tonila has painted many of the electrical boxes. 0000225000002258000022560000222300002245000023090000231100002308000023000000229700002274

Street Art in Craiova Romania

Craiova, Romania’s 6th largest city and capital of Dolj County, is situated near the east bank of the river Jiu in central Oltenia. The population of 300,000 makes it the same size as Iceland. It lies around 145 miles from Bucharest.

There are many things to see and do in Craiova however the street art does not mentioned in any of the official  websites.

Here are a few examples of what can be found downtown in craiova.

The Man Who Jumped Out Of A Painting In Craiova Romania. Some Of The Best Street Art

Craiova is a city around 4 hours drive from Bucharest in Romania. Some of the street art there is incredible and I will do a full article on that with photos, but here as an example we have a painting on the end of a row of buildings from which a casual passer by seems to have jumped out of the painting. Maybe he has. IMG_2640

Could Football Grounds Be Improved By Organised Street Art and Graffiti ? A Debate.

This is a serious suggestion. Many football grounds are actually relatively bland now and could do with a bit of organised decorating. I am sure many will disagree but the standards of graffiti art or street art are so high now that under some sort of supervision the inside and maybe the outside of grounds can be somewhat improved. Thoughts?

The street art might be football related of course and even reflect previous players.

As I travel around Europe there is an ever increasing amount of street art to see and some is extraordinary and in fact only rarely is it average or poor.

Lets have a debate over this topic.

Is this Hunter and The Bear Graffiti Art in Glasgow

Anyone who follows my blog, and why would you not, will know my latest interest is photographing around Europe Graffiti Art. I will be posting a lot about Hunter and The Bear in the next few days, but this graffiti art shot from a couple of months ago in Glasgow caught my eye tonight. Could it just be Hunter and The Bear graffiti art?

Reflections on Auckland

The general impression of arriving in  New Zealand is positive from the moment that the immigration forms ask is one wants to stay and the immigration process is complete in maybe 5 minutes or less.

The general drive into auckland is unspectacular with normal housing and industrial developments lining regular dual carriageways. There is however an absence of the hideous traffic jams that line most of the UK motorways.

The centre of  Auckland has the regular shops and hotels that one expects to see but the focus point is maybe the harbour filled with various yachts of immense expense, boats offering whale and dolphin trips and the edges lined with appealing bars and restaurants. An Italian restaurant  Portofino can be recommended for basic but nice Italian fare and not too pricey.

As one walks around the people look happy. When I was there there was an international Karate tournament with most of the young teenage contestantants staying in the hotel. There was no arguing with these guys when they rushed up en-masse to get their breakfast items. The Austrian girls were particularly scary.

The city is also lined by a series of dormant, hopefully, volcanoes. Mount Wellington being one example giving great views of the city and worth a decent climb. At the moment cars are allowed to the top to a small car park but soon this will end and car passengers will have to take the same walking route as their coach passenger fellow tourists.

The food generally is interesting. Gorgeous slices of Mango at breakfast with fresh pears and apricots. Lebanese restaurants with very different menus to what might be expected in UK.

There is the usual selection of excellent graffiti and one piece of a guy trying to break into a locked garage caught my eye and was spectacular. A few curious signs too.

What else is there in Brentford apart from the football club?

Brentford is a town in middlesex not really known for anything but over the last year became fairly well known in the media for their football related antics. The Warburton issue reached the media followed by the discussion over Matthew Benham and his vision of football being matched with mathematical modelling to replicate the success of his own company SmartOdds.

However what else is there in Brentford? Brentford might be regarded as the gateway to the M4 motorway, or local even to Kew Gardens. However not so many are aware that Brentford sits on the River Thames. Fewer will be aware that the Watermans Centre provides a venue for cinema and drama. Even fewer are aware that the graffiti that covers the walls of the car park in the Watermans Car Park must rate as some of the best in London.
