Side Effects. The film that is……. Wimbledon

I only heard about this film as I was sent a link relating to a work-related matter, so i knew the gist of the story before seeing the film. An interesting and very different film. Well acted. Rooney Mara plays the psychiatric patient well, although was less impressed with Jude Law as the psychiatrist. Well worth seeing. Sadly however we saw it monday night, a night of snow and ice, and were were literally the only two people in the cinema Wimbledon IMAX. The only downside to that cinema is the parking. There is no real alternative other than paying 1.50£/hour, right up to 11pm. So, that makes it £8 for the cinema ticket  ( or SINMA as someone seriously once wrote it, an adult) and 6£ for the car park. Crazy.

Diary of a Wimpy kid. Parents do not be alarmed. This film is great

With some sort of trepidation the 11 year old asked and I agreed to go and see a film. Having searched it seemed there were 3 options and the Wimpy kid was the deemed choice. Cue great concern. This did not sound like something that would entertain me on a friday evening. In reality this was such a funny film that I would watch it again, OK not today, but certainly when the video version comes along in a few months. The script was witty with a few jokes that went above the heads of the mainly young and pre-teenagers watching. The story was quasi believable . This was the first day of release and the cinema was far from empty. The acting was also rather good. The teenegaer playing the lead role had it just right like a clumsy adolescent. Zachary Gordon one suspects will go on to a decent acting career. To describe the film? There are elements of Chevy Chase style humour, Rat Race springs to mind, but with a few serious messages in there and a laugh at maybe many families out there who have their quirks. Peyton List was not too shabby either as the crush object for the guy and the father was almost believeable too, Steve Zahn

I would recommend this film and for a parent it is not too painful an experience. When can i watch it again? I apologise for the I- Phone photo. Real camera was at home sleeping…….

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

North Wales

Well it has to be said that it is alleged to be an area of beauty but sadly that beauty evaded my vision on sunday and monday. all I saw was an unimpressive coastline, rain and grey skies. Manchester airport was less than idyllic too. I did not get off ot a good start. A Vauxhall insignia car, in the dark, with no instructions. first problem how to open the boot. Second problem, how to get the handbrake off. third problem, how to start the car. Hmmmm…….
anyway a couple of lectures and then home again. The bus from the airport was an interesting as in cabaret experience. The X26 is an airport bus, it runs too and from Heathrow. Rather strangely it has precious little and indeed almost no space for luggage. the bus fills up quickly and the driver had a stand up argument along the lines of ” you dont respect me” and ” i know more than you…”, with a gentleman who would not put his case in the correct place!
Went to see Tinker Tailor Soldier spy tonight in a really little cinema in wimbledon above HMV, called oddly enough HMV Curzon. Great film and great acting, if you like spy films. Not looking forward to my london jaunts for the next three days. commuting is not fun

Films and things

Went to see Harry Potter tonight and have to say a seriously average film. Bit of a mystery film really with the mystery being where is the acting? The main characters remind me of table football when you spin the men in a line, they walked around in a line all the time with expressions not far off gormless. Bit of fighting and thats it. Did I understand the ending, well not really. Was Snape Harry’s father? Who knows. And as for the scene 19 years on, they looked like 19 minutes older……….
The high point of the evning though was dinner at Red Peppers in Esher. Using my magical tastecard ( the 50% discount card etc….), whole meal for 3 came to £30 ( of which 15£ was alcohol). Food was great, chicken burrito, yum.
