What is going on at Brentford and what is needed right now

After the farcical events of the last month we need to briefly recap.

  1. We employed an unknown manager and he has been sacked after 8 games.
  2. The results were not the issue but other factors which have not been specified.
  3. Mitigating factors include an unforseen series of injuries
  4. The new manager given the role till the end of the season does not want the job permanently.
  5. Brentford are heading for the relegation places, potentially this saturday.

What has gone wrong? Last season the fans were all together as a unit. Crowds were growing. The ground was sold out most games. Away travelling fans increased in numbers. This season that is all in reverse with 126 fans travelling to Middlesboro for a midweek game. My own view is this. The results have been poor but the performances poorer. A definite lack of tempo compared to last season ( this translates in my language to lack of effort), lack of leadership on the field. Would any away fan during the game be able to spot who the captain was? The quality of the play has been poor. The new players have mostly failed to be as good as the departing ones and certainly not better. And the defence has got worse, and frankly it was bad last year. Brentford are regularly conceding two or more goals each game.

So we need this

  1. A clear statement from the board about the long term managerial situation
  2. A statement from Matthew Benham regarding these matters, his plans and an explanation for what has happened
  3. A new captain on the field.
  4. A new defensive coach
  5. A far higher tempo to the play
  6. some stability for the next 6 months such that we can avoid relegation.

Anyone who thinks we are immune from relegation please think again. We have beaten only two of the poorest sides in the division so far and lost to sides that frankly are mediocre. But importantly we need to see something from the players. management team and board that we as fans can identify as an explanation for what has happened. We need to be able to get behind the team again and give them support. This is not easy when we have no clue what is going on.

The Last Redcurrants of 2015 from UK

One single plant has produced around £100 worth of redcurrants this year. I was somewhat amazed to find a few more the other day at the tail end of September. Tasted amazing. Thoroughly recommend a redcurrant plant for 2016.

Eat Blueberries to live for 1000 years ? Maybe

Blueberries are one of the few fruits that are native to North America and In terms of U.S. fruit consumption, blueberries rank only second to strawberries in popularity of berries. The US cultivates around half of all global consumption of blueberries with another 30% from Canada. Maine produces around 25% of all US cultivation of blueberries.

Cultivation of blueberries was widespread among the Native American tribes throughout North America. European colonists learned about blueberries thanks to these Native American traditions and brought blueberry species back to Europe. Yet commercial cultivation of blueberries in Europe has been a relatively recent phenomenon limited to the 20th and 21st centuries. Thanks to increasing cultivation in the Southern Hemisphere — including South American countries such as Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay as well South Africa, New Zealand and Australia — fresh blueberries are now enjoyed throughout the year on many of the world’s continents.

One interesting current trend in history of blueberries has been their dramatically increased consumption within the U.S. In 1997, the average U.S. adult consumed about 13 ounces of blueberries per year. Ten years later, in 2007, that amount nearly doubled and reached an average level of 22 ounces.

There are plenty of myths about eating blueberries but there is little doubt of one fact that simply they are good for you. They have one of the  highest antioxidant capacities amongst all fruit.   Blueberries are a good source of vitamin K. They also contain vitamin C, fibre, manganese and other antioxidants (notably anthocyanins). Valued for its high levels of antioxidants, some nutritionists believe that if you make only one change to your diet, it should be to add blueberries.A number of clinical studies have tried to prove that eating blueberries reduces cancer rates, heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular disorders. Also helpful is that we can freeze blueberries without doing damage to their delicate anthocyanin antioxidants|.

To prove a huge health benefit such a reduction in deaths or longer life expectancy might be difficult in a trial situation as all these illnesses have multiple causes. But will you live longer if you eat blueberries? Probably yes you will.

Rubber Duc. This band could be massive in 2015. You heard it here first.

One of the biggest musical finds for me in 2014 was Rubber Duc. A South African trio whose members are:

Nick Jordaan – Vocals, Guitar, High-hat

Brendan Campbell – Backing Vocals, Lead Guitar, Kick

Sheldon Sham – Saxophone, Percussion

I found them thanks to my daughter working out in South Africa. The first discovery was that they have 3 songs on Spotify. And of course You Tube videos. Their musical genre really means or meant nothing to me “ folk swing”. They are relatively new launched in 2013. The songs have great lyrics and meaningful ones at that.

The most recent single has a great video . It’s Alright

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlUBFxL8jt4

‘It’s Alright’ is about the beauty and freedom of individualism. Whether you are rich, poor, crazy, sane, quiet, loud, shy, a couch potato, an intrepid explorer, all about the treble or all about the bass, it’s alright to be who you are”

But maybe the most sensational song and the lyrics are superb is Stay with me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8mz5kuyQmw

And the original song I heard . Aint’t nobody got time for that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2fsdQEcLS4

The You Tube quote says it better than I can

“Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That” is a satirical musical look at living in South Africa today. In true Rubber Duc style, it is a quirky and humorous “quack” at current issues… All the stuff we simply don’t have time for! “

Given some luck and exposure this band could be huge. Their music is up there with the best I can find at the moment and their songs and lyrics quite unique. Where else will you hear a duck quacking in every song?

Some great images from the net. Enjoy and spread the word please.

Amnesia 5SOS The Visual Interpretation Happily

Sometimes things and people just collide. They know who and what they are. The band 5SOS I mistakenly called a “boy band” for many months and refused to take them seriously. I then did actually bothered to listen to their music. It is way beyond being good. A few songs are special and Amnesia is one of those. The song is also the only one on their album that they themselves did not write. The clue is in the list of writers, none of whom are in the band!

The sketch comes from the artist Elena Bushe. Enjoy.

If you want to sing along the lyrics are below

“Amnesia”

I drove by all the places we used to hang out getting wasted
I thought about our last kiss, how it felt the way you tasted
And even though your friends tell me you’re doing fine

Are you somewhere feeling lonely even though he’s right beside you?
When he says those words that hurt you, do you read the ones I wrote you?

Sometimes I start to wonder, was it just a lie?
If what we had was real, how could you be fine?

‘Cause I’m not fine at all

I remember the day you told me you were leaving
I remember the make-up running down your face
And the dreams you left behind you didn’t need them
Like every single wish we ever made
I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape

‘Cause I’m not fine at all

The pictures that you sent me they’re still living in my phone
I’ll admit I like to see them, I’ll admit I feel alone
And all my friends keep asking why I’m not around

It hurts to know you’re happy, yeah, it hurts that you’ve moved on
It’s hard to hear your name when I haven’t seen you in so long

It’s like we never happened, was it just a lie?
If what we had was real, how could you be fine?

‘Cause I’m not fine at all

I remember the day you told me you were leaving
I remember the make-up running down your face
And the dreams you left behind you didn’t need them
Like every single wish we ever made
I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape

If today I woke up with you right beside me
Like all of this was just some twisted dream
I’d hold you closer than I ever did before
And you’d never slip away
And you’d never hear me say

I remember the day you told me you were leaving
I remember the make-up running down your face
And the dreams you left behind you didn’t need them
Like every single wish we ever made
I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape

‘Cause I’m not fine at all
No, I’m really not fine at all
Tell me this is just a dream
‘Cause I’m really not fine at all
